A New EBook Book Reader From Acer Inc. Expected To Take On Amazon
Acer Inc., no slouch when it comes to contending in the notebook space, plans to go into the ebook book reader arena later on this year.
Acer director Jim Wong, president of the companies IT Products division, outlined the plans through an interview with Bloomberg at Acer's offices in Taipei.
The day before Apple's alleged entry into the tablet sweeps-a device that will serve ebook readers in addition to others-Wong also said the company will also offer "hundreds" of apps online, programs which should support Google's Android program, now running on numerous Acer products, as well as supporting Microsoft's Windows OS.
By July, Acer will be likely to release an electronic-book reader with a 150 mm monochrome screen, Mr. Wong told Bloomberg. "Amazon and Barnes & Noble; they are US based. In Europe and Australasia we have publishers to work with, and nearly all of them are subject matter owners," he said. Acer should go up in opposition to devices including the Amazon dx , B and N Inc.'s Nook and Sony's Reader and so it will be easy to compare ebook reader models.
Acer also has the Apple "iSlate"-if it appears-to contend with. "We're producing something, and we should see what happens" J.T. Wang, Acer's chairman, maintained in the report. "We are certain to work moreover within the Windows world or within Google's distinct OS space."
