Do you have a plan to make money as an affiliate marketer? No, I don't mean that you have a plan to - well, to start affiliate marketing and make money. What I mean is a plan that will lay out, step by step, what you are going to do to start earning with affiliate marketing.
Too often, people hear about affiliate marketing and get excited. And who can blame them? After all, you don't need any products of your own to get started. You can do it from home, in your free time. But the truth of the matter is that you still need to have a solid plan of action like any other business, affiliate marketing can be very rewarding - if you know what you're doing, and why.
When you plan to make money as an affiliate marketer, you need to know what course of action you are going to take. Will you be looking to get free traffic from article marketing? Or do you like to jump in to the world of pay-per-click advertising? Will you build your own websites? Post on blogs? Write your own content? Work with AdSense? There are a lot of questions you need to ask yourself before you get going on your first campaign.
It's a good idea to at least read a few books about the subject, so that you know how affiliate marketing works - and how marketing on the web works. You are going to need to know about click-through rates and analytics. You need to understand how to do keyword research, do discover what people are searching for online, and how to target those people so you get traffic to your site or to your offer.
It's also a great idea to at east be familiar with basic marketing copywriting methods as well. You don't have to be a professional, but just gaining an understanding of how marketers appeal to their prospects will help you a great deal.
Of course, you need to figure out what you want to start out promoting - and then how best to promote it. Not all products will sell perfectly on a blog, or a Squidoo lens. Whether you want to promote an ebook, an ecourse, a physical product or something totally different is up to you - but you will have to make sure that you understand who the customer base for this product is, what they want, why they want it, and how to get in front of them so that they buy from you.
So as you can see, you can't just plan to make money as an affiliate marketer. Even though it is one of the cheapest (and in many cases, free) businesses you can start, you still have to spend some time learning about what your options are, and coming up with a plan of action so that you can start making some money at it. Start with a simple plan and, as you go along and begin to see some money coming in, you can expand your efforts and get in to other areas of marketing online.
